Following a reassessment by the National Tax Service, actor Yoo Yeon Seok's tax penalty was lowered from 7 billion KRW to 3 billion KRW. Yoo Yeon Seok's agency, KingKong by Starship, confirmed the reduction, explaining that the National Tax Service acknowledged a potential issue of double taxation due to differing interpretations of tax laws. Yoo Yeon Seok was found to owe 3 billion KRW, which he promptly paid.
KingKong clarified that Yoo Yeon Seok had expanded his entertainment activities by creating content on YouTube since 2015. To manage his various ventures, including YouTube and the food service industry, Yoo Yeon Seok set up an agency. The tax penalty arose when the National Tax Service initially sought to apply personal income tax rather than corporate tax to the agency's earnings.
The agency stressed that Yoo Yeon Seok's tax penalties were not a result of tax evasion and assured that all taxes had been paid in full.
