Three impartial members of STMicroelectronics' supervisory board have opposed the appointment of Marcello Sala from Italy to the company's board, disregarding the backing of French members, as per the chairman's statement on Wednesday. It was highlighted that the independent members collectively possess a right to veto, according to Nicolas Dufourcq. The nomination of Sala, who leads a department in Italy's economy ministry overseeing state-owned companies and asset sales, was presented by Italy. The Italian and French governments jointly hold a 27.5% stake in STMicroelectronics through a holding firm. Sala, a trusted associate of Italy's Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, has been instrumental in assisting the government in managing critical corporate matters.
