The objection hearing for the injunction filed by ADOR against NewJeans independent activities was quickly concluded in 15 minutes when the decision was made to approve the temporary injunction. The 50th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Kim Sang Hoon, conducted a closed-door session on April 9, at the request of NewJeans members' representatives, who were the only ones present as the members themselves did not attend.
The temporary injunction filed by ADOR prohibited NewJeans from participating in various activities without ADOR’s authorization, including songwriting, performing, making public appearances, engaging in advertising agreements, and any other commercial activities related to their status as entertainment industry figures.
Following the court's previous ruling that ADOR had not sufficiently demonstrated that NewJeans' breach of the exclusive contract had caused irreparable damage to the trust necessary for the contract to continue, the NewJeans members filed an objection and announced a temporary suspension of their activities on March 23 during an event in Hong Kong.
Should the objection not be accepted, NewJeans' legal team intends to appeal to a higher court. ADOR's legal representative noted that there were no significant developments since the initial injunction decision during the hearing, which concluded with both parties presenting their arguments. However, due to the confidential nature of the session, no further details were disclosed.
Previously, on March 21, the court had granted ADOR's injunction request, which included barring NewJeans from entering into advertising contracts or engaging in commercial endeavors without ADOR’s approval.
