Celebrating Korea’s Liberation Anniversary: Song Hye Kyo and Professor Seo Kyung Duk’s Global Acts of Donation
/Article

Actress Song Hye Kyo continues to use her influence in positive ways, this time by supporting a cultural project overseas to mark the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation. She is collaborating with Professor Seo Kyung Duk from Sungshin Women's University to produce and donate Korean-language guidebooks for historical sites on Saipan and Tinian in the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. territory. These guidebooks will focus on the history of Korean forced labor victims during Japanese rule and will be accessible online and offline.

Professor Seo announced the initiative on social media, highlighting the significant presence of Korean forced laborers on Tinian during Japan's military occupation. He stressed the importance of raising public awareness about Korean historical sites abroad, noting their current lack of proper preservation. The ongoing partnership between Song Hye Kyo and Professor Seo, which began in 2012, involves donating Korean guidebooks, signs, and artworks to 37 Korean independence-related historical sites worldwide, timed with important dates in Korean history.
