Lee Seung Gi, a singer and actor, has successfully resolved a legal dispute with his former agency, Hook Entertainment, concerning unpaid royalties and withheld financial records. On April 8th KST, Big Planet Made Entertainment revealed details of the court's decision which criticized Hook's behavior as deliberate or severely careless. The court emphasized that the agency's failure to furnish accounting records and pay Lee Seung Gi the royalties owed to him was a significant breach of trust that had been established between the parties.

The court highlighted that Hook had a legal obligation to disclose Lee's earnings as per their contract, yet this was neglected for more than a decade. Lee Seung Gi brought up the matter in 2022, notifying Hook about terminating the exclusive contract and requesting the accounting records and unpaid earnings. Despite releasing 137 songs since 2004 and generating an estimated 9.6 billion KRW in music sales, he claimed to have received no revenue. Hook eventually paid Lee nearly 5.4 billion KRW but demanded 900 million KRW back, alleging an overpayment related to advertising profits. The court ruling on April 4th favored Lee, directing Hook to pay an additional 581 million KRW.

During a previous court session in November, Lee Seung Gi made a personal statement, urging for justice for young artists who may face similar injustices. His case initiated a national conversation and led to the implementation of the unofficially-dubbed "Lee Seung Gi Law." This amendment to the Development of Popular Culture and Arts Industry Act mandates that agencies must present artists with annual accounting records and supporting documentation in written form.
