Criticism of Trump’s economic team over tariffs pours in from unexpected quarters
/Article

Republican allies of President Trump have not openly criticized his tariff plans, but his top aides have faced scrutiny. Recent criticism has intensified towards key economic advisors in the White House following a tariff rollout that caused market turmoil. Some of Trump's close associates, such as Tesla's Elon Musk and investor Bill Ackman, have expressed concerns about the tariffs. As opposition to the tariff strategies grows, even on Capitol Hill and among Wall Street analysts, Trump and his team have defended their actions by claiming that negotiations with more than 50 countries are in progress. Elon Musk criticized White House trade advisor Peter Navarro's defense of the tariffs, asserting that his Harvard background might not be useful. This sparked a response from Navarro dismissing Musk's remarks as self-serving. Notably, Trump supporter Bill Ackman also criticized Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick but later retracted his harsh assessment.
