Speaking with AllHipHop, original Soul Sonic Force member Cholly Rock and Van Silk discussed the pioneering impact of Hip-Hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force. In 1982, they released "Planet Rock," which is credited with birthing electro-funk/Hip-Hop by blending various music styles and introducing the Roland TR-808 drum machine.

Tragically, the Soul Sonic Force lost one of its members, Pow Wow, who passed away at the age of around 64 after battling emphysema and complications from COPD. Van Silk expressed his condolences, highlighting Pow Wow's contribution to revolutionizing Hip-Hop with "Planet Rock."

Cholly Rock, reminiscing about his friendship with Pow Wow, emphasized their roles as original members of the Soul Sonic Force and pioneers of the Hip-Hop culture. He mentioned plans for a memorial in Pow Wow's honor.

The article also underlines the broader impact of "Planet Rock" on music genres beyond Hip-Hop and how Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force, through the Universal Zulu Nation, promoted unity and social awareness in the Hip-Hop community. Pow Wow's passing sheds light on the lack of healthcare and support for aging Hip-Hop legends, prompting initiatives like the Paid in Full Foundation and Hip Hop Alliance to address this issue.
