Drake’s Lawsuit Against Universal Music Group Enters Discovery Phase Without Delay
/Article

Drake's attorney has criticized UMG in a statement after the recent court decision favoring Drake in his legal battle with Universal Music Group. The judge's ruling allows Drake's legal team to proceed with the discovery process in his lawsuit against UMG regarding Kendrick Lamar's song "Not Like Us." This decision denied UMG's motion to postpone discovery, enabling Drake's lawyers to request document production and depose key UMG executives. Drake's lead attorney, Michael Gottlieb, expressed eagerness to uncover what UMG was trying to conceal. The ruling comes after a series of legal disputes between Drake's team and UMG, with Gottlieb previously accusing UMG of being greedy and desperate, emphasizing the seriousness of the lawsuit beyond a mere rap battle. In response to UMG's attempt to dismiss the defamation lawsuit based on a precedent involving Michael Rapaport, Drake's legal team argued that the public took Kendrick's lyrics seriously, unlike the over-the-top attacks in the Rapaport case.
