Visa Offers $100 Million to Become Apple’s New Credit Card Partner, According to WSJ
/Article

According to the Wall Street Journal, Visa has offered Apple around $100 million to take over Apple's credit card partnership from Mastercard. Visa is making a strong effort to secure the Apple Card by offering a substantial upfront payment. American Express is also competing with Mastercard to become the issuer and network for the Apple Card. The partnership between Goldman Sachs and Apple, which began in 2019 with Mastercard as the payment processor, has come to an end. Various financial institutions are now competing to replace Goldman Sachs as Apple's credit card partner. In addition to Visa, Barclays, Synchrony Financial, and JPMorgan Chase have all been in talks with Apple regarding the credit card partnership. Goldman Sachs initially entered the consumer business nearly ten years ago in an attempt to expand its revenue streams beyond trading and investment banking. However, by late 2022, the company decided to scale back its retail ambitions after setting aside significant funds to cover potential losses in that sector. Visa has declined to comment on the matter.
