In Washington, the U.S. is expected to revoke a policy introduced by the Biden administration that mandated liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects to begin exporting within seven years of receiving approvals. The LNG industry had urged the Trump administration to withdraw the policy, as some projects require more time for completion. Concerns were raised that restarting applications could result in delays for LNG exports. A forthcoming document in the Federal Register outlined that the Department of Energy would now consider granting extensions on a case-by-case basis for valid reasons, aligning with its previous practices. The Energy Department did not provide immediate comments on the matter. Fred Hutchison from LNG Allies welcomed the revised policy, emphasizing that it eliminates the rigidity of the previous deadline, bringing back a more sensible approach to U.S. LNG export procedures.
