Meta Platforms Inc. is seeing the departure of its top business executive for the Asia-Pacific region, a veteran in the industry who managed key international markets for over ten years.
Dan Neary, who has been serving as the company's vice president for the region since 2013, played a crucial role in expanding the company's user base across Australia, Greater China, and Southeast Asia. Neary, based in Singapore, shared his decision to leave in an internal communication. He cited personal reasons for his departure, as confirmed by a Meta spokesperson.
Neary expressed his gratitude for leading Meta's business in APAC and mentioned his plan to assist the transition by staying on for a few months until a successor is appointed. Following this period, he intends to take a break before deciding on his next steps.
During Neary's tenure, Facebook notably experienced significant growth in Asia, with the region now contributing close to 50% of the reported global advertising reach for the platform. Instagram and WhatsApp also made substantial strides in Asia, with Facebook becoming a primary platform for communication and media consumption in countries like Thailand.
Before joining Meta, Neary held roles at Skype and eBay Inc. as vice president and general manager of global market development and vice president of emerging markets, respectively.
Neary's departure, which was announced shortly after his update about Meta's latest AI solutions, coincides with the company's efforts to compete in the rapidly evolving field alongside firms like OpenAI and DeepSeek. Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg has indicated plans to invest significant funds in AI infrastructure, aiming to integrate the technology across its various platforms and business segments.
The Meta spokesperson praised Neary for his exceptional leadership that propelled the company's business in the region to great success over the years.
