CSX, a railroad operator based in Jacksonville, Florida, announced on Tuesday a tentative five-year agreement with the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS). The agreement, which is yet to be approved by the union's members, covers 1,215 railway workers who handle signals and points for the company.
In response to the Biden administration's push for improved benefits for freight railroad employees, various railroad operators in the U.S. have engaged in union negotiations. CSX stated that the proposed agreement with BRS includes enhancements to wages, healthcare, and paid time-off benefits.
In January, CSX finalized a five-year agreement with around 4,200 workers represented by the Teamsters union, which featured an 18.77% wage increase. Additionally, this month, employees under the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers ratified a five-year collective bargaining deal with CSX.
