Stormzy is to be awarded an honorary Doctorate in Law from Cambridge University for his philanthropic endeavors. The British rapper is being honored for his charitable works and impactful presence in various fields including education, music, sports, and literature. Cambridge University announced that Stormzy is one of eight distinguished individuals chosen for honorary degrees. Particularly, his contributions to charity and positive influence have been recognized. Notably, Stormzy initiated the Stormzy Scholarship at Cambridge in 2018 to support Black British students financially. The scholarship has grown significantly over the years, providing assistance to numerous students. Referred to as the "Stormzy Effect," the scholarship has led to a notable increase in applications from Black students at Cambridge. Stormzy has also made significant strides in sports, such as establishing initiatives like #Merky FC to enhance diversity in soccer. Additionally, he has ventured into owning shares in non-league soccer club AFC Croydon alongside footballer Wilfried Zaha. This honorary award from Cambridge University adds to Stormzy's list of academic recognitions, having previously been awarded an honorary degree by the University of Exeter. The ceremony to confer the honorary degrees is scheduled to take place later this year at Cambridge University, along with other honorees like political activist and author Professor Angela Davis.
