Gold Medalist had filed a compensation claim of 680 million KRW (approximately $462,400) against the late actress Kim Sae Ron, but it was not related to her DUI accident costs. Instead, the claim was linked to financial penalties stemming from her involvement in the Netflix drama Bloodhounds.
In a confirmation letter signed by both parties on November 22, 2022, it was acknowledged that the outstanding balance for Kim's advertisement and drama contracts affected by her DUI incident amounted to the said sum. The repayment deadline was set for December 31, 2023, with Gold Medalist demanding prompt settlement within a year. To help cover the costs, Kim agreed to entrust the agency with the sale of her Range Rover Defender.
On March 15, 2023, Gold Medalist appointed the reputable law firm LKB & Partners to represent them in urging Kim to repay the amount. The firm warned of potential civil and criminal actions if the payment was not made promptly.
Although initial speculations tied the claim to Kim's DUI incident, it was revealed that the compensation was linked to her role in Bloodhounds. Despite personally covering her DUI settlement costs, Kim saw a reduction in her screen time in the series following the incident.
Kim's request for more time to settle the debt was reportedly left unanswered by Gold Medalist's founder, Kim Soo Hyun, amidst dating rumors between the two. The actress's family confirmed their relationship and criticized the agency for their treatment of Kim.
Gold Medalist denied these allegations and threatened legal action against the spread of misinformation. Despite evidence supporting the relationship claims, the agency has not issued further statements on the matter.
