Lin-Manuel Miranda Pulls 'Hamilton' from Kennedy Center Amid Management Controversy

Lin-Manuel Miranda has decided to withdraw his hit musical "Hamilton" from a prominent theater in the wake of a controversy surrounding changes in management.

The highly anticipated run of "Hamilton" at the Kennedy Center was abruptly canceled by Miranda following the appointment of Donald Trump as the head of the renowned Washington D.C. venue.

Just a few weeks ago, the Kennedy Center was abuzz with excitement as it prepared to host the Broadway sensation "Hamilton" for an extended engagement from March 3 to April 26, 2026.

However, the venue has been embroiled in turmoil and cancellations after former President Donald Trump took charge and swiftly ousted several board members appointed by President Joe Biden.

Deborah F. Rutter, the long-standing president of the center, was among those recently removed. Miranda, the mastermind behind "Hamilton," made it clear that he would not allow his show to be staged at the center under Trump's leadership.

In a straightforward interview with The New York Times, Miranda stated, "We will not associate ourselves with the Trump Kennedy Center. This is not what the Kennedy Center stands for, and we will not support it."

His sentiments were echoed by Jeffrey Seller, the lead producer of the show, who criticized the center for becoming overly politicized under Trump's control.

Amidst the upheaval, the team behind "Hamilton" is actively seeking alternative venues in the Washington metro area to ensure fans can still enjoy the beloved musical.

Despite the uncertainties at the Kennedy Center, Miranda and Seller reassured audiences that the national tour of "Hamilton" will proceed as planned through 2026.

The departure of "Hamilton" is just one of the latest high-profile exits following Trump's controversial takeover of the Kennedy Center, with actress Issa Rae and TV creator Shonda Rhimes also expressing their dissatisfaction with the new direction of the institution.
