TWICE's Dahyun recently revealed to Dispatch that she has finally achieved her long-held dream, stating, "It was a dream deeply rooted in my heart."
After spending 11 years in the music industry, TWICE's Dahyun has embraced a new challenge. While her fellow members Nayeon, Jihyo, and Tzuyu have explored solo music careers, Dahyun has made a bold move by venturing into acting, becoming the group's first member to make this transition. Through her determination and passion, she secured her debut acting role.
Her journey into acting commences with a prominent role in the Korean adaptation of the beloved Taiwanese film, 'You Are the Apple of My Eye.' Despite feeling the weight of expectations and concerns, her enthusiasm for acting remains steadfast.
Dahyun shared, "While promoting with TWICE, I devoted time to honing my acting skills whenever possible. When the opportunity presented itself, I accepted it eagerly and with gratitude. Though the pressure was immense, I approached it with excitement."
This new endeavor marks Dahyun's maiden solo challenge, surprising many with her acting debut as she had not previously openly discussed her aspirations for acting. However, she disclosed that acting had been a longstanding dream predating her career as a singer.
She elaborated, "I was scouted as a trainee and nurtured my dream of becoming a singer thereafter. However, even before that, my desire for acting burned brighter. As a young student, I would watch movies in theaters and envision myself on the screen."
Finding solace in movies and dramas over the years, Dahyun acknowledged the unique power of conveying energy through the screen, expressing her hopes of becoming an actress capable of bringing positivity and comfort to others.
Upon commencing individual activities within TWICE, Dahyun promptly expressed her interest in acting to her management company. She confessed, "I harbored a desire to pursue acting but lacked direction. The company assisted me in discovering a suitable project."
This fortuitous project turned out to be 'You Are the Apple of My Eye' directed by Jo Young Myung. Despite being at the pinnacle of her singing career, Dahyun embarked on this bold leap into acting without prior experience.
The production team sought a fresh face for the role of Seon Ah and were drawn to Dahyun's interest in acting, having already delved into independent film projects.
Dahyun, a long-time admirer of the original film, expressed her excitement about infusing her own essence into the character of Seon Ah, recognizing the value of the opportunity bestowed upon her.
While thrilled to land the lead role, the weight of headlining her debut acting project was considerable. Dahyun recounted, "The thrill of a first-time experience was immense, yet the anxieties loomed large. I engaged in numerous discussions with the director prior to filming."
Delving deeper into her character of Seon Ah, Dahyun collaborated with the director to establish intricate details of Seon Ah's background not depicted in the original movie, including her family dynamics and past traumas.
Driven by her dedication, Dahyun immersed herself in Seon Ah's challenges, portraying her emotional struggles as her own. As one of the film's poignant scenes unfolded, Dahyun's emotional portrayal of Seon Ah's college entrance exam failure resonated deeply.
Expressing gratitude towards her co-star Jinyoung for his unwavering support during filming, Dahyun cherished the collaborative atmosphere on set, reflecting on the enriching experience and vowing to pay it forward in the future.
Determined to embrace new opportunities and challenges, Dahyun remains committed to giving her best efforts in her evolving acting career, with a focus on spreading positive energy through her performances.
