Sean “Diddy” Combs' legal team has leveled serious accusations against attorney Tony Buzbee, alleging professional misconduct, unauthorized practice of law, and ethical breaches in their opposition to Buzbee’s motion for admission to practice law pro hac vice in the Southern District of New York.
The controversy arose when The Committee on Grievances for the Southern District of New York denied Buzbee’s application for admission on February 13. This denial was a result of Buzbee appearing in cases within the Southern District without obtaining proper admission beforehand.
While Buzbee asserts that he is licensed to practice law in New York State and is in good standing with the state bar, Diddy's legal team argues that he signed multiple filings across 22 cases without authorization to practice in the court. It's a serious accusation against the attorney who has filed multiple lawsuits against the imprisoned Hip-Hop mogul.
In a Memorandum of Law opposing Buzbee’s amended motion, Diddy's legal representatives highlight the attorney's alleged failure to disclose his actions of filing without admission in each case. The filing also accuses Buzbee of violating New York’s Rules of Professional Conduct by asserting Combs' guilt in pending criminal charges without valid basis.
Diddy’s attorneys argue that Buzbee's unauthorized practice of law violations were brought to his attention by the Committee on Grievances, yet he opted not to rectify the situation. Furthermore, they point out that Buzbee’s public statements, including accusations of sexual abuse against Combs and expressing opinions on his guilt in criminal charges, could prejudice the mogul's legal proceedings.
In a parallel move against Buzbee, Jay-Z’s legal team filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit that alleges Roc Nation and its attorneys conspired to pay Buzbee’s former clients for negative information on the attorney. The legal battle between these high-profile figures is heating up with each side pushing back vehemently against the other.
